A basic t-shirt should solve a simple problem: find a tee that holds its shape, washes well, and pairs with almost everything. Most don't. They shrink after the second wash, fade by summer, or develop that rough texture that makes you skip them for the softer option. This collection covers men's basic t-shirts in 100% cotton and cotton-blend fabrics — pre-shrunk, available in multi-packs, and cut in fitted, regular, and relaxed fits.
Cotton vs Cotton-Blend: What Changes
100% cotton: softer initial feel, breathes well, no synthetic content for those with sensitive skin. Retains moisture slightly longer than blends and may need a cold wash to maintain softness long-term.
Cotton-polyester blend: holds its shape better through repeated washing, dries faster, and colour retention is stronger over time. Marginally less soft against skin but more stable as a daily-wear tee.
Combed ring-spun cotton is the premium version of either. The process creates a smoother yarn that starts soft and gets softer with washing — the opposite of open-end spun cotton, which tends to feel progressively rougher.
Fit Guide
Fitted: sits close to the body from shoulder to hem. Works well tucked into trousers and keeps the collar close to the neck without gaping.
Regular: room through the chest and torso without looking oversized. The most versatile cut for wearing untucked — this is the one to default to if you're unsure.
Relaxed: roomier through the body, longer hem. Best untucked, pairs well with slim-fit trousers or jeans. If you run broad across the chest, going up one size in fitted cuts gives you the right shoulder seam placement and chest room without a sloppy waist.
Care and Longevity
Machine wash cold. Hot water breaks down cotton fibres faster and contributes to shrinkage even in pre-shrunk tees. Tumble dry low or line dry — high heat is the main cause of long-term shape loss.
Turn inside out before washing: protects the outer surface from friction and slows colour fade.
Multi-packs: buying in sets of 3 or 5 reduces wear-per-wash on each shirt. Rotating a set of 4 tees extends the lifespan of each one compared to hammering 2.
What to Wear These With
Everyday casual: jeans or chinos. Regular or relaxed fit, untucked. White, grey, and navy handle the most combinations without thought.
Smart casual: fitted cut tucked into well-fitting trousers. Works under a sport coat or blazer as a foundation layer.
Layering base: any cut under an open overshirt, denim jacket, or lightweight bomber. Fitted cuts add the least volume when layering.
